FSASC Legislative Update 2-22-2019

On Tuesday, February 19, the Senate Committee for Health Policy held a public meeting where Senate Bill 434, which addresses the issue of up to 23 hour patient care, was discussed. Mike Madewell of Panama City Surgery Center provided testimony to the committee.

FSASC Legislative Update 2-07-2019

FSASC's physician Board Member, Dr. Shapiro, who serves as the Risk Manager for Red Hills Surgery Center in Tallahassee, made a presentation to the House Subcommittee on Health Market Reform yesterday. He was asked to present by the Chair of the subcommittee Dr. Pigman.

FSASC Legislative Update 1-07-2019

Florida Governor-Elect Ron DeSantis has selected Mary Mayhew to serve as Secretary of the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), which manages the state's $27.6 billion Medicaid program.  Mayhew's experience includes leading Maine's Department of Health and Human Services between 2011 and 2017 and serving as the top Medicaid official to President Trump.  She oversaw Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program at the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, where she was responsible for the management of the $375 billion federal Medicaid program. 

FSASC is planning to meet with Secretary Mayhew and looks forward to working with her and her team.  

 

 

FSASC Legislative Update 12-12-2018

Ron DeSantis, Florida Governor-Elect, recently announced the creation of his health care transition team - Transition Advisory Committee on Health and Wellness.  The committee is comprised of a diverse group of health care experts from a variety of different medical fields, as well as health care providers, addiction counselors ,and mental health professionals, in addition to current and former leaders of Florida’s health care system.  FSASC Board Member Dr. David Shapiro will serve on the committee.  

The group will meet over the next month to prepare recommendations for Governor-Elect DeSantis and Lieutenant Governor-Elect Jeannette Nunez.  DeSantis has placed great importance on this transition team by appointing Lieutenant Governor-Elect Nunez to serve as Vice-Chair.  The first meeting will be held today, December 12.  The team is expected to break into subgroups to focus on various aspects of health care and human services.
